A11Y-011

Hidden content can still receive keyboard focus

MediumDefault severity · Accessibility · Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA)

Last reviewed

What it checks

Focusable elements inside containers marked aria-hidden="true".

Why it matters

Keyboard users tab onto controls that screen readers announce as nothing, which is confusing and can trap focus.

Recommended fix

Remove aria-hidden, or make the inner controls unfocusable (tabindex="-1" or the inert attribute).

How to verify

Tab through the page and confirm focus never lands inside the hidden content.

Please fix this production issue in my app.

Issue A11Y-011: Hidden content can still receive keyboard focus
Site: https://your-app.example

First confirm the issue in the code or live config. If it is not present, say so and change nothing.
Task: For each aria-hidden container in the evidence, either remove aria-hidden (if the content is meant to be used) or add the inert attribute so its links and buttons cannot be focused.

Constraints: make the smallest change that fixes this, keep the current design and behaviour, never paste secret values into code or chat, and tell me which files you changed.
Done when: Tab through the page and confirm focus never lands inside the hidden content.
