Image alt text is a file name

MediumDefault severity · Accessibility · Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA)

Last reviewed

What it checks

alt attributes that are a file name, a camera file name (IMG_1234) or a placeholder word such as "image".

Why it matters

Screen readers read out "IMG underscore 4021 dot jpg" instead of describing the image.

Recommended fix

Describe what the image shows, or use alt="" if it is purely decorative.

How to verify

Inspect the images and confirm each alt describes the content.

Please fix this production issue in my app.

Issue A11Y-016: Image alt text is a file name
Site: https://your-app.example

First confirm the issue in the code or live config. If it is not present, say so and change nothing.
Task: Rewrite the alt text of the images in the evidence to describe what each shows in a few words (or alt="" for decorative images). Do not use file names.

Constraints: make the smallest change that fixes this, keep the current design and behaviour, never paste secret values into code or chat, and tell me which files you changed.
Done when: Inspect the images and confirm each alt describes the content.
