robots.txt blocks the page’s CSS or JavaScript

Last reviewed

What it checks

The page’s own scripts and stylesheets against the robots.txt rules that apply to Googlebot.

Why it matters

Google renders pages like a browser; without the CSS and JavaScript it sees a broken page and may rank it lower or miss content.

Recommended fix

Remove the Disallow lines that cover script and style folders.

How to verify

Use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console and confirm no resources are blocked.

Please fix this production issue in my app.

Issue SEO-015: robots.txt blocks the page’s CSS or JavaScript
Site: https://your-app.example

First confirm the issue in the code or live config. If it is not present, say so and change nothing.
Task: Update robots.txt so Googlebot can fetch the CSS and JavaScript files listed in the evidence (remove or narrow the Disallow rules that block them).

Constraints: make the smallest change that fixes this, keep the current design and behaviour, never paste secret values into code or chat, and tell me which files you changed.
Done when: Use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console and confirm no resources are blocked.
